Kazakhstan is mourning the loss of a legendary football figure in the country, Timur Segizbayev, who has passed away at the age of 76.

Segizbayev played over 200 matches for one club, Kairat Almaty during his career, which began when he was a teenager and ended in 1970.

He went on to work as a coach for Automobilist Kyzylorda, Shakhter Karagandy and Kairat Almaty. After six years with Kairat, he became head coach of the South Yemen national team.

Segizbayev returned to Kairat, and helped them achieve an impressive seventh place in the Soviet domestic championship in 1986. One of Kairat’s academies bears his name.

He also served as president of the former Football Association of the Republic of Kazakhstan (FARK) from 1994 to 1996.
