Hallur Hansson was the hero, scoring two minutes from time as Víkingur clinched a third successive Faroese Cup at the expense of HB Tórshavn.
After goalkeeper Géza Turi denied Poul Ingason in HB's best chance of the first period, Hansson could have earned Víkingur a half-time lead. With time and a clear path to goal he let fly from the edge of the area, but HB keeper Teitur Gestson got down low to divert the shot around his right post.
A free-flowing HB were superior for much of the second half, and with 15 minutes remaining they should have broken the deadlock. Pál Joensen took advantage of a slip in the Víkingur defence but failed to pick out the unmarked Levi Hanssen to set up a simple finish.
They were punished at the death. Víkingur right-back Bárdur Hansen whipped in a precise cross and Hallur Hansson met it with a close-range header to clinch the trophy and secure European football for 2015/16.
Hallur Hansson, Víkingur midfielder
HB clearly had the upper hand in the second half. We tried on the counter, but it didn't go well. We kept at it, though, and a good cross came in.
I knew I had to be first on the ball; I was and it went in.
Fróði Benjaminsen, HB captain
It is our own fault that we had not decided the match before then. We had the chances to do it, so we can't say that we didn't deserve our fate.
